Has the forum gets underway no doubt we will have a sales section,on other forums I’ve visited there’s a section to leave feedback on members who you have dealt with in the sales department or maybe they have just gone you a good deed.
Having a section like this eliminates people asking for references on members they want to deal with, all being well we will be scammer proof, but you never know.

That's a good idea. We could explore that if and when we get a sales forum. There is also a way on here to provide positive and negative feedback, I believe, related to "reputation," and you can report someone. To be honest, if your experience is bad enough to "report" someone, they probably should not be on this forum anyway and likely would be banned after confirmation. We will see how it pans out.

I’ll piggyback and make a motion that members can’t post any for sale ads until a minimum of 75 posts. That at least gives a prospective buyer a chance to review the sellers activity and contributions to the site. If a seller simply has 75 posts of “great”, “I agree” and “ditto”, then we know they’re a scammer that’s put in marginally more effort than the Tapatalk losers

Agreed about limiting access until a certain amount of posts, hopefully we’ll be more secure than on Tapatalk .

I think its a good idea to have a reasonable number of posts 'under your belt' before you can post ads for sale - however, in my limited experience most of my interest was either buying and selling watches or straps and looking back at my post history I've only made about 250 posts in the last 10 years - so it would probably take me an eternity to build up to the 75 post threshhold as suggested by Flyfishtahoe

Any chance we could get our previous post count like... certified for established reputation? I bought one of my PAMs from another member in the okd forum, and the strap for it as well. I'm not exactly shopping, but I'd hate to miss something because I don't talk as much as I used to.

First of all. I had close to 4000 posts and 20 years on the forum. so well known OG members should get leeway on the sales post count

Second - No to feedback on sales or good deeds. Will end up having people leaving fake comments to boost sales of strap sellers by friend shills The site which was supposed to be non commercial was in my opinion one of the most commercial. Never seen so many people shilling for sellers who never once participated on the forum

Last. I do a quick read and if nothing else. I go to other forums with a larger variety of forums. If you want members to stay. need to be a less of a one dimensional forum

              Life style forum

              Auto forum

Secondary forum to discuss other brands

              Watch making forum (maybe)

Sales forums - watches - 100 posts required. Straps - OG members get a pass. Others 75 posts or the make the rules as needed

              DON

You were like a human lie detector over there, you sniffed out more scammers than everyone else combined.

But just to push back a little for the sake of argument, you say "people will...", but I was under the impression that the whole point of moving over here was to filter those people out so they wouldn't be here to do those things in the first place. I know it took me a month just to find the new site, and Craig even told me what to look for; and I still wasn't sure I found the right place until I'd watched it grow long enough to see some of the OG's posting. In retrospect it seems obvious, but it was pretty ambiguous from the other side of the fence.

                  Hi Don,

If your referring to my post

If you have a minimum post count. it will most likely prevent scams as scammers are looking for the easy con. They don't want to waste their time building a presence on a forum

                  However

It doesn't prevent them from replying to posts under fake aliases to "Has anyone bought from XXX" and suddenly you get 1 post members saying what a great seller XXX is or posting on the forums about the great service they got from XXX strap seller

No way you can really stop it as anyone can join and post

                  DON

I dunno, I didn't find it to be the easiest process. Then again, I wasn't super dedicated and wasn't planning to milk thousands of dollars in easy money out of anyone. Maybe that counts as a lack of motivation 😂

I did think since members had to be”accepted” after putting in more info, it was going to help keep scammers out. I like the concept of building a presence to keep the 1 post guy from responding to each new WTB add.

And while shopping isn’t the highlight of this site, I have to say as a relative newbie compared to many here, there is something nice to offering things for sale to the community first. Not to mention, with some many experts, it can help take some of the guesswork out of things.

There are many good suggestions here, but we need to also think about time. Many of these things take time from a human. And none of us are paid, and in fact, this forum costs money to some, so whatever the solution, it will have to be easy. One major concern on a sales forum is liability. If we say that we vetted people and then miss someone, what liability is there? We need a watch and accessories sales forum, but it will have to be something that all admins are comfortable with. So, no telling if and when it could happen.

The rule of Caveat Emptor applies to all sales

these aren’t children on the forum and the forum shouldn’t have to hold their hand when buying. If they’re too lazy to do the work to protect themselves. The forum shouldn’t be responsible for them

How about professional "sellers" buy a sponsorship to help defray the cost of running the site? It could potentially solve part of the issue.

In regards to members selling, I think previous active P.com members should get consideration for posting items for sale. We all know who they are, all other should have a minimum post count as others suggest along with a 60-90 window of membership. Someone signing up to just hawk a watch or strap (one and done) adds nothing to the forum.
