It seems most brands are downsizing their packaging. Just heard Breitling CEO on Scottish watches podcast and he was saying that nobody wants to have to store all that stuff.

Let’s split the difference - smaller for less room/storage/etc, but still nice and not just cardboard.

If price was lower i would say ok ,but praising prices and cutting down packaging on a premium brand ,no.This packing looks very low cost!
Besides boxes and all the paraphernalia is apart of the whole Paneristi experience ,that's one of the reason we are here for.I also saw some boxes on some diver models that looked like a tool case made from recycled aluminum! These were not as bad and the design was ok still much cheaper then a true wooden box! This is the case in the pic.

On a sub 1k watch that sell in the thousands and thousands of quantities every year… sure … go green. But for a high end quality item this is poor showing. Add a free green travel case with every AD sale for the right PR but leave the boxes alone. They are pretty much a tradition at this point.

Couldn't agree more and I am starting to see others posting the same frustration on other watch forums.

I guess this likely was unavoidable once the e-cases were released. Now it's about minimalist packaging.

Sadly I doubt the new boxes will hold up, 20 years from now, having a box in nice shape with a watch may become rare when the boxes are flimsy?

Green/Covid initiatives have made convenient outlets for companies to cut costs using excuses that people feel guilty arguing against. It's pretty transparent and annoying.
